ACT Drama Festival
"Back to the Basics"
Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, 2017
Hosted by the
Board of Directors ACT Manitoba
Ukrainian Reading Association Hall
The theme of this year’s festival is "Back to the Basics," because the Festival Committee really wants to focus attention on the performers rather than the set and the props.
This will be the 39th annual ACTFest (the first was held in 1979) which over the years has been hosted by eleven different Amateur Theatre Groups throughout Manitoba. The Festival provides an excellent opportunity for the numerous provincial Theatre Groups to share their theatrical art and join in the camaraderie. The weekend opens Friday evening with a welcoming reception and a production by a local company. Then Saturday becomes a full day of theatre, with ACT’s annual banquet and dance in the evening. Sunday features further performances in the morning.
Each performance is a one-act play, or an excerpt from a full-length play, of no more than 60 minutes in length, and each is adjudicated by three theatre professionals. The Groups also have the option of taking part in a private workshop with one of the adjudicators during the weekend.
